The DR950 Arrives!

McCullochs Manufacturing is very excited to announce the release of their new multipurpose drill rig onto the Australian market. The DR950 supersedes the very successful DR800 series of rigs that has been entirely manufactured by McCullochs at their Bendigo plant in Victoria to meet all relevant Australian Standards. The DR950 design builds on the strong foundations of the DR800 and now includes improvements from new technology that has been developed over the last three years. Improved safety and ease of operation were top of the list throughout the design stage. The DR950 has been designed from the ground up to be the flagship product of McCullochs Manufacturing and is built by Australians for Australian conditions.

The first impression of the DR950 is its robust design, particularly that of the mast. McCullochs design, engineer and manufacture this rig to the highest standards displayed in the industry.

Danfoss, Cummins and McCullochs design staff worked closely together to deliver an exceptional engine/ hydraulic system package that has a number of real advantages. The hydraulic system will now perform at 1200 – 1700 engine RPM instead of the previous 1600 – 2200 RPM. This improvement will allow fuel savings of up to two litres per hour which over a month’s operation makes huge saving in costs and the environment. Other advantages from this clever innovation are lower emitted engine/ hydraulic noise and extended engine life. The engine and hydraulic cooler package is designed to operate at 50 Deg’s ambient temperature to suit Australian outback conditions. The hydraulic system has been totally revamped to deliver dynamic and highly efficient power that is safe and easy for operators to control. This all adds up to very real advantages over the DR950’s competitors.

A new Cummins power plant has been fitted with a host of improvements over the previous unit. The QSB 6.7 electronic engine offers power, precision and flexibility. It also achieves Tier 3/ Stage IIIA compliance with technology that maintains a simple and cost-effective package. QSB engines are designed to run up to 500 hours between scheduled service filter changes and come with a full 2-year/ 2,000-hour warranty that covers all Cummins branded components.

Other improved features in the DR950:

·         Redesigned and engineered mast assembly to optimise strength, rigidity and ease of access.

·         Longer Feed / Traverse travel up 600mm to 7.2 metres.

·         Repositioned Wireline Winch with an added Archimedes Layer fitted.

·         Increased Drill string clearance to the mast for improved access.

·         New optional mast foot with larger rod / casing clearance up to 380mm (15”).

·         Extendable operators console for improved/ safer vision particularly on angled holes.

·         Redesigned operator console layout including improved gauges, ergonomics and operator controls.

·         Improvements to rotation head for longer service life of components and quieter operation.

·         New Sound Hog acoustic cabinet for lower noise emissions

·         Improved hydraulic filtration package.

·         Optional hydraulically extendable Rod Bin holds 42 (250 mtrs) 4 ½” X 6 Mtr RC Drill Rods.
